    Bills Horse Trough Bellevue Hill

The  Bills horse trough in Bellevue Hill recently had a lucky escape when an gigantic hole has opened up on Victoria Rd in Sydney's Eastern suburbs.
The hole was made by a broken water main which caused a landslide burying three cars.
The Bills trough was just a few metres from the edge. Thanks  Denis and May who have been in contact with the Woolarha Council, and have been told the trough will be taken care of and replace back once the road has been repaired .
Adding some photos  Regards  George Gemmill .

Bills Horse Troughs Newsletter May 2009

Hello to all my friends who share a common interest in the Bills Horse Troughs, just sending you this  e-mail as it has been a  long time since I had made contact with you.

Hope this e-mail s finds you and all your family enjoying good health.

I just want to keep you up to date, with news items about the BHTs.

I have recently updated my web site about them on 19th May. I must say I still enjoy finding out information about the troughs as each one has a different story to tell.

With a lot of help from contacts who have sent or told me where BHTs can be seen I now have  a collection of over 300 photos, and their locations are all  listed in the site.

I would like to ask, if you know where there is any more troughs you may have sighted in your travels.

I invite you to view the web site at http://www.webdotwiz.com/billshorsetroughs/index.htm

Derek has sent this BHT in from Donald it is located in front of the Old Police Camp on the Sunraysia Highway.

There is also another address which I keep adding to each month when new locations are found. They can be also be viewed at http://billshorsetroughs.spaces.live.com/

I would welcome your comments {good or bad} and ask if you have any new information you know of about the BHTs, you can contact me at billshorsetroughs AT hotmail DOT com and if possible maybe I can answer any queries you may have.

I have found the BHTs to be a very interesting hobby and I, am willing to share with you any of the information I have collected.

The BHTs also give me something useful to work with on my computer.

I would appreciate it, if you could send me a short reply to this e-mail if you want to receive further updates.

My Best wishes to everyone.   George Gemmill.

    Tunbridge Wells Dec 2008

This photo of the Bills Horse Trough has been sent to me from a contact who lives in London
Alan told me he had recently visited Tunbridge Wells, in Kent
    > One of his "targets" was the George & Annis Bills" trough.
He has attached a recent (6-Dec-2008) photo of the trough. It looks as though it has been
    > moved a bit since the photo you sent me which was taken in 2003.
This one trough was erected in 1930.
    > This trough is slightly unusual. Most of them in the UK were intended to be
    > stand-alone and approached from either side i.e. there are normally
    > inscriptions, or at least polished granite, on both sides. The side of this
    > trough that you can't see in the photo is unfinished and looks like it was
    > originally attached to a wall.
Thanks for the Photo Alan Next enrty will be the photo taken in 2003

Mark Small of Sydney  is also researching the history of of the Bills Horse Troughs and is making  up his own collection of photos of the troughs. Whenever he is travelling he is always on the lookout for new locations

Early this year I told Mark about a BHT which had been sighted in the Royal National Park South of Sydney. Mark started searching for this BHT , he made contact with the Parks chief ranger Victor Harnadi and together they went searching for it.

Thanks to information supplied by Don Groves when he had sighted it about 20 years ago while bushing walking they found it just where Don said it was.
It is now  partially buried, and surrounded by bushes/trees, well out of sight of the tracks that wander about between the rubbish piles that make up the old dumping ground.

Heaven knows how it got there, and how it was found again! Thanks Mark sending me  these pictures.
You will notice that there is a second concrete trough (not a BHT) with its legs/stands laying down, just beside the BHT. It has "Richard Taylor Ltd Marrickville" printed on its side. (Marrickville is a suburb of Sydney).
Victor says, funds permitting, he would like to relocate the BHT down by the river, a popular picnic spot. That would be a great spot for it.

Don who had read the item about Bills trough which was published in the Friday Five a weekly newsletter sent out by Westprint.

Don also mentioned there was once a old Guest house in the park which was burnt down. I  would you know any more information about it and what was it name.? Can any one help?
