The Bills horse trough in Bellevue Hill recently had a lucky escape when an gigantic hole has opened up on Victoria Rd in Sydney's Eastern suburbs.
The hole was made by a broken water main which caused a landslide burying three cars.
The Bills trough was just a few metres from the edge. Thanks Denis and May who have been in contact with the Woolarha Council, and have been told the trough will be taken care of and replace back once the road has been repaired .
Adding some photos Regards George Gemmill .

Mark Small of Sydney is also researching the history of of the Bills Horse Troughs and is making up his own collection of photos of the troughs. Whenever he is travelling he is always on the lookout for new locations
Early this year I told Mark about a BHT which had been sighted in the Royal National Park South of Sydney. Mark started searching for this BHT , he made contact with the Parks chief ranger Victor Harnadi and together they went searching for it.
Thanks to information supplied by Don Groves when he had sighted it about 20 years ago while bushing walking they found it just where Don said it was.
It is now partially buried, and surrounded by bushes/trees, well out of sight of the tracks that wander about between the rubbish piles that make up the old dumping ground.
Heaven knows how it got there, and how it was found again! Thanks Mark sending me these pictures.
You will notice that there is a second concrete trough (not a BHT) with its legs/stands laying down, just beside the BHT. It has "Richard Taylor Ltd Marrickville" printed on its side. (Marrickville is a suburb of Sydney).
Victor says, funds permitting, he would like to relocate the BHT down by the river, a popular picnic spot. That would be a great spot for it.
Don who had read the item about Bills trough which was published in the Friday Five a weekly newsletter sent out by Westprint.
Don also mentioned there was once a old Guest house in the park which was burnt down. I would you know any more information about it and what was it name.? Can any one help?

Ironically directly behind the watering trough is a no horses sign, bet George would not be happy about that.

This Trough is located in Gosford NSW at the Harry Kendall Museum.
There is still the dogs trough at the side, sadly it is not connected to any water supply.
This location also has a number of old relics and rusty tractors to look at if you are interested.
The museum building costs $3.00 to enter, but the grounds are free to wander around.

Georges Hall, this is located in Lionel St, just
inside the grounds of the Calvery Chapel Christian
School.
Berry (is also a town on the south coast). This BHT is
located within the Apex Park alongside Prince Alfred
St.

Another new location is at the south coast town of
Milton. Its just north of Ulladulla, but inland and is
an old historic town, the original service centre of
the district, just the sort of town to have a BHT.
Well it wasn't too big, and after a search along the
main street, then the parks, a visit to the showground
led me to discover the trough near the stock pens. So
it is located within the Milton Showground, but away
from the street entrance, adjacent to the stock
enclosures. Thanks for the Photos Mark.

This trough is located in the front of the Annandale North Public School In Johnson Street. It is only 2kms from the Centre of Sydney.
The children are a group known here as the "History Group". They wrote a small book about the area before the school was built.

This Bills trough was once located in South Grafton .
It was moved and now stands at the Grafton Racecourse.
It is not the standard Bills trough and must have been made locally with funds supplied by the Bills Trust.
